The Brand Manager is responsible for developing and managing the Own Brand marketing strategy for Wakefern’s Own Brand portfolio of brands including the recently launched Bowl & Basket and Paperbird, as well as the redesigned Wholesome Pantry brand. This role manages all brand guardrails as well as brand messaging across every customer touchpoint. Acts as the central point for all Own Brands content creation, driving and executing a customer-first omnichannel marketing activation. Marketing campaigns must drive awareness, trial and consumer retention, as well as the acquisition of new shoppers. Integral to success in this role is the ability to analyze KPIs and refine marketing methodology as needed in order to activate upon customer behavior and insights derived. This role reports to the Senior Manager of Brand Strategy and works cross-functionally with the Own Brands, Advertising, and eCommerce teams to deliver and execute the marketing strategy.


  • Develops and leads the brand strategy within the framework of Own Brand
  • Creates the marketing strategy for new and existing products that the marketing team will launch
  • Leads the messaging across multiple retail banners with clearly defined objectives and communication between corporate, retail and consumer
  • Oversees implementation of the Marketing strategy – including campaigns, events, digital marketing, and PR
  • Undertakes continuous analysis of the competitive environment and consumer trends
  • Identifies opportunities in existing marketing campaigns and develop pragmatic solutions to accelerate Own Brand penetration
  • Ensures that the marketing objectives are implemented and deadlines are met
  • Works closely with the product management team to define marketing materials and programs to support Own Brand
  • Manages social media presence and direct programs to improve social media reputation and brand recognition
  • Collaborates with the package design team to create best in class product design while increasing speed to shelf of new item launch
  • Works with the packaging team on-brand design, promotional messaging, product packaging, and copyright
  • Collaborates with Sourcing, Innovation, and Quality teams to accelerate the introduction of new private label products
  • Participates in the development of product line growth strategy marketing, in partnership with Innovation leadership
  • Builds and maintains positive working relationships and effectively conveys detailed information to a diverse population of stakeholders

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Marketing, or related field or equivalent work experience
  • Master’s degree in Marketing or related field is preferred
  • At least 5 years of brand management experience in a retail environment.
  • Must have prior experience managing teams or progressive leadership experience.
  • Driven self-starter, with the ability to proactively work autonomously
  • Prior experience in merchandising or retail operations is preferred
  • Demonstrated experience building and developing a successful brand strategy
  • Track record of product development, innovation, and brand strategy implementation
  • Capability to manage multiple projects utilizing cross-functional teams and engage organizational leaders
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite of products
  • Ability to interpret data and express the implications of analyses
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, problem-solving, and time management skills
